Introducing No Stingy Act’s opening Act

Raise $65,000. (Only $23,317 to go!)
Build an orphanage in India.
Keep 100 children off the street and out of child labor.

Who  One hundred percent of the money raised will benefit the children of Gospel for Tribals Social Services Society (GFT) in India. GFT currently cares for 2,700 orphans in 29 facilities.

What  $65,000 will provide housing for 100 children (84 x 30 feet), a dining hall (40 x 20 feet), a store room (15 x 20 feet), boy’s and girl’s bathrooms (no more squatting in the field), and a running water system (quite a luxury in some parts of India).

Where  The orphanage will be located in a tribal area of India in the village of Attapaka. This village is just two kilometers outside of Bhadrachalem, the capital city of this tribal area. Bhadrachelem sits on the bank of the Godavari river, which is considered one of the most holy rivers in India making it a popular pilgrimage destination. Being this close to the tribal capital will give the children ready access to education and  medical treatment.

Why  This is where the situation gets complicated…

Short answer — To keep 100 children off the streets and out of child labor.

Long answer — The current facility in the village of Attapaka doubles as both an orphanage and a home for the elderly (think nursing home). After a recent inspection of the facility, local authorities informed the caregivers that they can no longer house both the children and the elderly in the same building and gave them 6 months to relocate one of these groups. If they are not able to comply, the authorities will put one of these groups, the children or the elderly, back on the street. (We don’t want that to happen, right?)

orphan children of Attapaka, India

The 58 children currently living at the Attapaka orphanage.

The Attapaka orphanage currently houses 58 children and the new building will house 100. That means there’s room to grow! This will provide a new life for the 30 children already waiting to get into this orphanage.

When  As soon as possible. The money must be raised and the orphanage completed by the end of June, 2013. (Can the word expedited apply to fundraising?)

How  With your help, of course! (I hope you’re feeling generous today.)
